In order to really appreciate DEEP THROAT one should be forced to watch all of those Ginger movies which starred Cheri Caffaro and which were made during the early 1970s. DEEP THROAT was not only a major box-office smash but that it was one of those titles that could be found in nearly every mom & pop video store that was located in the metropolitan New York City area during the heyday of the mom & pop video stores. That era lasted from the early 1980s until the late 1990s. You were more likely to find a copy of either DEEP THROAT or THE DEVIL IN MISS JONES in those stores than to find a copy of the Johnny Wadd movies like TAPESTRY OF PASSION or TELL THEM JOHNNY WADD IS HERE.
Speaking of hard-to-find adult movies has anyone ever heard of a movie whose title is HOT PARTS? HOT PARTS was released in 1972 and it was produced by Ultra Violet who was a former associate of Andy Warhol. The soundtrack of that movie consists of songs that were composed and performed by the members of the 1960s rock group that was known as the Left Banke. LP copies of the soundtrack from that movie can often be found on Ebay but the movie itself seems to have disappeared.
Somehow I get the feelish that some of these posts are more than just a nostalgic trip down memory lane. That someone's trying to use Al's blog to promote golden oldies.
But that's ok. The 70s were indeed the good old days when real people were stars. Just don't forget to pay Al residuals or attract more posters so Booble will up his pay.

How long was the wait time to see Deep Throat at the Pussycat Theater?
It took me several hours and I was lucky - whatever the wait, it was worth it. I never got tired of watching Deep Throat. It was only 62 minutes. It played 8 years straight at the Hollywood Pussycat.
I ask because I saw a picture of a long line of people waiting to get into see the movie. I don't recall those theatres in Los Angeles but the pictures are real. I really miss watching Adult Films in theatres.
I imagine you couldn't just sit in the theater and watch it as many times as you wanted? I paid for one performance and that's what I got. Higher standards complimented Vince, the owner who was a smart guy and treated people fairly.
How big was the Pussycat theater? They were single houses unlike the theatres of today. Not the IMAX but much bigger than most and not cookie cutters. Squeaky clean. Professional staff. I saw couples and all ages (I mean older couples as well - not just over 18 or 21) and types. A classy operation. I was treated like royalty. I never saw any live sex at the theatre. It was just like a real movie house except it was Deep Throat and not Gone With The Wind.
Pussycat could make or break a film. The theatre had very high standards. I believe Al, the visionary, that he once stated that he would replace the theatres with parking lots or something else. By the early nineties that in fact happened although a few still exist. There on the web. The glory days are long gone.
Harry Reems discusses some of this in a series of videos you can download off the net when promoting Inside Deep Throat. Harry treated Al with respect but Linda did not - just read her first book.

Last - The late Anthony Spinelli used to stand outside and shake hands and meet the new customers. I believe this was at the Sunset and Western location in Hollywood. Anthony was just a super nice guy and man, life is not fair and also too short. Anthony directed Jamie Gillis Annette Haven in an epic scene for High School Memories-1981 among other winners. It was not the next Deep Throat but with Jamie it was deep and that's another story...I hope that helps with your Deep Throat questions.

I didn't see the documentary Inside Deep Throat and this has probably been mentioned in the film, but the movie has made money in every medium since it's release, first in the theaters, then on beta max & VHS, then most likely laser disc, now DVD and most likely bluray, and you can probably buy it or steal it via download online. The movie Deep Throat will continue to make money long after we are gone. Can you say that about any of the current crop of porn movies of today?

It would be great if Al Goldstein could write some more books. As far as I'm concerned a single book that is written by Al Goldstein is worth as much as one hundred of the books which Isaac Asimov managed to get published between the years 1969 and 1992. I would love to read a book that's devoted exclusively to Al's various legal battles or one that details the rise and fall of his MIDNIGHT BLUE cable TV show.
Speaking of MIDNIGHT BLUE I recently contacted Bill Lustig's company for the sake of getting another MIDNIGHT BLUE DVD released. Had SCREW not ceased publication last Spring perhaps Blue Underground might have released additional MIDNIGHT BLUE DVDs by now.
Speaking of the 1972 movie HOT PARTS SCREW did review that movie around the time when it premiered. HOT PARTS, it seems, has become a lost movie. It's not mentioned in either Ultra Violet's IMDB filmography or in her best selling book that appeared during the late 1980s. And, it seems that very little information can be obtained about that movie from the various Left Banke related websites such as Leftbankism@yahoogroups.com.
Most of the members of the Left Banke are still alive but that group hasn't released a Top 20 hit song since late 1966. However, Michael Brown who was creative genius behind that group is apparently still writing songs at this time according to what has been posted on the Left Banke websites.

Probably due to many years of poisonous media propaganda, you're under the erroneous assumption that Socialism and economic prosperity are mutually exclusive. As someone who spent 30 months in China, I can assure you that is untrue.
In terms of economic affluence, China is exploding while the US simultaneously flounders. A recent article on Bloomberg discusses how literally millions of Chinese citizens are moving into the middle class. China has just as many "rags to riches" stories as America does; see this short film for at least one example.
My only problem with Al at the moment is his utter disregard of Jewish values. For example, in this article he talks about eating at Papaya King, when he knows damn well that he shouldn't be eating any kind of vile, repulsive, trichina worm-laden pork. That really chaps my ass.

No offense, but is this a joke? Since about the late 70's/early 80's, China has stopped being socialist in any meaningful sense of the word. Yes, their flag is red with yellow stars, and yes, the ruling party still calls itself communist, but by now the economy is mostly capitalist. China's economic success is due the market reforms instituted by Deng Xiaoping and his successors, not due to any socialist policy they once held.
Enlighten me: how exactly Al could have made his past fortune under socialism (REAL socialism, modern China doesn't count and so does Laos and Vietnam, who began introducing market reforms during the late 80's and early 90's), an economic system that prevents private enterprise?

Have you read Al's past blog posts and book? No! Al states that at one point while married to his fifth wife he slept on the floor and her friends and family (as bad as they were) provided the only support he had at the time. I cried when I read this. Articles on the web reflect more of this and I'm reading your comment that I'm kissing his ass? Are you a crazymaker or just crazy?
