Religion, Politics and Other Fairy Tales

In this new era of censorship, exemplified by the firing of Don Imus, we have unfortunately returned to the world of burning witches. Superstition, stereotyping and the fear of open discourse are at war with themselves again. The battle since man first bit into that rotting apple is similar to the wars in Iraq and Vietnam. It is like the battle of cavemen who are afraid of lightening in the sky and believe that there is some superpower called god that gives shit about his life versus the rationalist who do not believe in magic, superstition, or the fairy tale that an all-knowing punitive god exists.

It is a classic battle of ignorance versus intelligence.

Politicians are like pornographers, merely mirrors of what they think the world is. They believe in heaven and hell and good versus evil. During World War II rather than take responsibility for the building of railroad tracks to take Jews to concentration camps they did nothing. The politicians of today, not only appeal to, but also are the lowest common denominator. They make bacteria and worms look smart. They are choosing to vote for superstition because they feel that is the popular thing to do. Why else do they go to church on Sunday, belittle the non-believers and seek applause for their predilections for religion? Heaven, hell and the lie that there was a savior helped reinforce the bullshit that is perpetrated on us to believe in god. At least the Romans had many gods to choose from and the Egyptians were playful enough to have gods that were hookers.

The politician’s exhibitionism of his religious beliefs is a journey into a fantasy. The politicians lie and rob and give the voting public a charade of distortion. If a politician truly believes in the fairy tale of god, it should be a private ideology and not paraded in front of TV cameras and still photographers to show a public display of character. We do not shit in public and wipe our asses on the streets so why should we do an equally humiliating act such as glorifying a fairy tale?

The recent actions of the church demonstrate the fallaciousness of these convictions. Think of the Spanish Inquisition, The Crusades and the War on Terror of today. More people have died in the name of religion than anything else. Even though George W. Bush has vetoed congress’ wish to end the war, he has in effect repudiated the will of the American public. The elections proved this and let us not forget he stole his first election with the help of his cronies on the Supreme Court.
